FCCP & CEI Share 2030 Census Recommendations

The 2030 Census may seem in the distant future, but by 2024, the U.S. Census Bureau will select  the initial operational design, or the “big picture” plan, for the decennial. The Census Bureau invited the public to share their input and ideas for an improved 2030 Census through a Federal Register Notice. The Bureau will give careful consideration to the recommendations it received through this process, as it researches, tests, and plans the 2030 Census operational design. Input from a broad range of stakeholders, including philanthropy, throughout the decade is critical to inform the Bureau’s decisions on the operational design of the 2030 Census.

Attached are the comments filed jointly by the Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation and the Census Equity Initiative. The comments focus on what we believe the Bureau’s research agenda must include in order to improve the differential undercount of historically undercounted communities in the 2030 Census.
