The Partnership Funds
The Partnership Funds are a funding collaborative that works with grantmakers and state leaders to build independent political power in order to win change in the lives of individuals, families and communities. Steven is responsible for the Funds’ grantmaking, for weaving together a community of committed donors and state-based leaders, and collaborations with allied funders.
His first advocacy experience was leading an LGBTQ-student group on a Jesuit campus; that eventually led to a political job fighting a marriage-discrimination ballot initiative. Following the campaign, a belief that we could be stronger together took him to Ballot Initiative Strategy Center where he helped build BISC into the premier hub for ballot-measure work that advances and defends equity and democracy.
Subsequently he worked at Tides where he facilitated $14.4M of civic-engagement grants in 2012, strengthened client relationships and led internal teams to improve systems. Most recently, Steven ran a consulting practice that created philanthropic alliances and grant programs, managed projects, and advised funders. Clients included labor unions, individual donors and foundations.
Steven is a proud Minnesotan and a non-stop DC United fan. He serves on the Board of the Alliance for Youth Organizing. He lives in DC with a dog named Gary and a husband named Michael.
