Guide: Louisiana Redistricting--Rules Of Engagement In A Nutshell (Advancement Project)

This is the first release in a series of state-specific redistricting “Nutshells” for the 2011 redistricting cycle. Advancement Project produces these publications as a way to distill complex voting laws and redistricting principles for advocates, including lawyers. They combine federal redistricting law with state redistricting regulations, rules, and other materials to provide a comprehensive overview of the laws and practices that impact redistricting. While these publications do not cover every provision of federal or state redistricting law, they highlight those provisions which, in our experience, most impact communities of color.

Advancement Project publishes these nutshells with the assistance of local lawyers and law student volunteers as part of our Redistricting for an Inclusive Democracy Program. We encourage our partners to use these guides in support of local, on-the-ground engagement during this redistricting cycle.
